What happens if the courier return the shipment to sender?
Majority of shipments get delivered successfully without issue. Courier will only return the package to sender (return to ForwardVia) if they encounter an issue with the shipment, that they are unable to resolve or the receiver decline it or refuse to make local tax & duty payment.
Typical issues are, for example, local customs do not allow the importation of such goods, incorrect content or value declaration, local tax and duty charges not paid, incorrect or incomplete shipping address or unable to locate the receiver's address, not providing the information requested by courier or local customs and others.
Unfortunately, if returned, there will be an additional return shipping cost, which is payable before it can be reshipped. Return shipping is similar to importing goods into the UK, and the shipping cost is always higher compared to exporting. See below for the typical return shipping cost. It is therefore important for the receiver to monitor the shipment, and cooperate with the courier/broker and local customs, provide any information, pay taxes, if requested, to ensure smooth delivery of your goods.
Return shipping cost depends on the courier. Below are the approximate rates multiple of the original shipping cost (export):
- DHL and Landmark Global - 2x original shipping cost + £30 courier return surcharge
- UPS, FedEx - 2.5x original shipping cost + £30 courier return surcharge + return to UK tax and duty, if applicable
- Royal Mail - no additional charge
